A Health Coach's Journey

Chronic illness and pain, drugs and medication, stress and frustration, anxiety and disappointment… Life can be a lot of fun. Or so it seems, when we wonder where our youth has gone, our energy, ability to focus, to dream, play and have fun.

Dream, play and have fun. We all had it in ourselves, and it is now buried very deeply under a decades-thick layer. How did we get as involved as kids? How could we be so creative and passionate in our own worlds, when we were climbing a tree or playing soccer?

Most of us have had hints that this balance, the harmony of a world where body, mind and spirit are creatively engaged, is still possible. It doesn’t last forever, but when we are surrounded by true friendship, the love of our family, when we are rewarded by success and fed by the pleasure of reaching out to others, we feel great; we light up, and start believing again in our great potential.

Yes, it does not last long, because our world is more cacophony than harmony. We may eat piles of comfort food and get numb on wine to soothe the anguish. We may put on weight and use a car to drive half a mile, and complain about weak knees and backache. We may drink coffee to stimulate our bodies and minds then wake up tired after a restless night’s sleep. We may eat five to ten times the amount of sugar and salt our bodies were meant to absorb, and pop pills to ease the pain.

We have all been there, and the reason why most health coaches are so motivated is that they have been there too, just like anybody else. It is through many months or even years of finding the right diet and lifestyle program that they have been able to overcome their illnesses, weight problems or cravings. Most of them have had to find their way by trial and error because doctors are completely overwhelmed and have very little time to devote to every patient that comes in with dietary and personal issues. Therefore doctors do what they can by handing out prescriptions and a list of do’s and don’ts and it is up to the patient to figure it out on their own.

In most cases, bringing back harmony and balance in your life is easy, if you follow a proven, efficient method. Imagine trying to learn how to play the violin on your own; it is impossible to make harmonious sounds come out of that violin. You are more likely to produce a horrific noise, which will scare off every cat, dog or bird in the area. You need a teacher to show you the right method…. step by step.

No matter how much you crave sugar, or drink sodas, no matter how often you tried to change your lifestyle and failed, a good health coach will steer you towards your Full Life Potential in small steps, just as they had to learn, each one bringing greater rewards. These rewards will soon make you want to never go back to your old ways. You are comforted in your choice of your new lifestyle because you understand what happened to your body and mind, and were able to correct it.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?”
