Clinician in the Spotlight: Kelly Beins, OTR/L- Occupational Therapist

Kelly is excited to bring a new discipline and a distinctive approach to the Healing Circles group.  She provides Occupational Therapy services for children, adolescents and some adults with challenges related to development, learning, relationships, behavior, or daily living.   Occupational Therapy uses everyday activities to help people improve their lives.  Where Physical therapy uses physical modalities like e-stim, ultrasound, and manual manipulation, Occupational Therapy uses activity programs to improve a person’s ability to do what they need to do.

Kelly’s OT practice is unique in that she has advanced certification in sensory integration, extensive experience in behavioral health and human development (a certification not all therapists have and a clinical focus, not many therapists choose), and over 17 years of clinical experience.  Additionally, Kelly is now one of few providers in the DC/Baltimore/Frederick area, dually certified not only in SI, but also in use of Integrated Listening Systems (a therapeutic activity program incorporating use of sound with daily activity to improve brain function).  She  uses her unique knowledge of how the brain and body work together to help people understand what types of interventions they may need, if intervention is needed, and what types of activities they can do at home to improve their lives.

Kelly’s vision is to use her expertise to enhance, not duplicate, what is already available within the local and surrounding community(s).  This means that through partnership with existing providers and families, Kelly offers mostly specialized assessment(s), consultations and home programs vs. direct treatment, to help children grow and develop at home and school and to make it easier for adults to live their lives to the fullest.  Kelly approaches her work with an intuitive, empathic, and playful style which means she is able to engage and work with some clients, other therapists find “difficult to treat.” Her analytical and goal-oriented nature means she is able to help all clients make some progress and to ensure that her services are individualized, outcomes driven, and as evidence-based as possible.  Kelly is warm and personable and has a down-to-earth honesty that makes her easy to be around and helps clients reach their goals and fullest potential.
